Dear Joshua and Nicholas,
I miss you sons. Every day without you is difficult but the holidays are especially hard to be separated from you.
I've recently received information that your mother married someone in 2005 and appears to be going through another divorce. I have no way of knowing whether that is accurate or not but you guys do. IF this information is true, I am so very sorry for both of you. I can only imagine what it must be like at home. I was there for the first divorce and it wasn't pretty. It saddens me to think that you've already been exposed to two failed marriages before you're even old enough to be out of the house.
Please know that even though a good marriage takes a lot of work and isn't always easy, you CAN have a really great marriage some day! Marriage can be one of the greatest blessings in your life. My marriage to Barb has been, and continues to be that for me. I look forward to the day that you meet her.
It probably seems odd to hear me talk about her doesn't it? I have said very little about her in the past because I wanted to wait until you were both older to share some things. I guess now would be an appropriate time to share a couple things you do not know.
Except for Jesus, Barb is the most tangible expression of God's love for me in this life. Her love is more than I deserve, and I thank God for her every day. Aside from all of her other awesome qualities (and there are many) she has stood by me through this entire ordeal, the courts, your mother, and the financial ruin because of our battle to protect you and ourselves from both of them. She prays for you with me daily.
The type of stress and attack that our marriage has been under because of this battle could easily destroy any marriage. In our case, I am grateful to say that our Lord continues to bring us closer than ever, as we weather the storm together.
You need to know that both of you CAN have a successful and loving relationship with a wife someday. It is not only possible, but I would be honored to share how we have done it if you'd like.
I love you both so very much. I miss you every day. I continue to lift you daily in prayer. I am here when you are ready...
Love,
Dad
